Rain is Number

Visualising relations between water as element and water as data

Years ago when playing around with Flash, I would spend loads of time scripting small experiments that often would strike me as interesting but most of those files had no purpose what so ever but to learn from playing with it all. Those files often seamed less relevant to the commercial Flash work I was doing at the time and often was forgotten as quick as the where made. Well, once you work with a concept some of those old visual experiments might work a treat. In this case a “matrix” view of type dripping down the screen.

At college In November 2006 we got the open brief: Water. This could be anything, any media, but with a graphic outcome.
My project was a concept, design and application that utilize a live data feed, to visualise local current rain levels. The out come would be a installation projected on a wall, but it would be possible to adapt the app to any platform or device that has Flash and is online.
The final project was to be presented as A3 prints, but along with that I made a web based demo of the concept, design and also a working demo of the application. View it all here
